Browns FS Tashaun Gipson downplays injury that rankles Pettine

Browns coach Mike Pettine is upset that free safety Tashaun Gipson showed up to minicamp Tuesday with a hamstring issue. Gipson is upset that Pettine is upset. All is not well in Berea. Gipson, who has claimed that the injury is quite mild, said he sustained it in Dallas trying to get in the best shape possible for camp. But Pettine is still unhappy with his Pro Bowl defensive back, who skipped voluntary workouts due to a contract dispute. "It's disappointing when a guy's not here to show up with something," Pettine told the Northeast Ohio Media Group. "We were going to be very careful anyway. ... You just don't have an assessment when a guy is not here and with your trainers and with your strength and conditioning. ... It's unfortunate that he showed up here with an injury." Gibson, who signed his tender Friday but is still seeking a long-term deal, sat out the entire practice Tuesday. He downplayed the injury, however. "I wanted to be in the most physical peak of my career, making sure that I was ready to come back and perform," he said. "Things happen when you're grinding. It's something that's moreso a precaution than anything. If we had to play today, if this was a Sunday, I'd definitely be out there playing with my guys."
