    Brian Tyms erupts for Patriots

The Patriots' best receiver on Thursday against the Redskins was Brian Tyms, a tall wideout with good speed from Florida A&M. Tyms caught five passes, all from rookie Jimmy Garoppolo, for 119 yards and a score. Tyms reeled in a 59-yard bomb down the right sideline when he got behind the Washington defense and also scored on a 26-yard strike down the left sideline when he got behind a defensive back. Tyms also was in contention for another deep pass in the game but drew a defensive pass interference call on the play. The 119 yards he had were more than the 106 yards he had in five preseason games last year with the Dolphins. He was then cut by Miami and landed with the Browns where he had two passes for 12 yards in seven games. Tyms' fight for a roster spot continues when he plays vs. the Eagles on Aug. 15.
