    Giants send two players to IR, promote two

    The Giants announced Tuesday they placed cornerback Walter Thurmond (pectoral) and wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan (foot) on season-ending injured reserve. Thurmond had surgery Tuesday for a torn pectoral muscle and will need 3-4 months recovery. Jernigan has a mid-foot sprain, but he will not need surgery. There is no timetable for his recovery. The Giants filled the openings on the roster by promoting wide receiver Julian Talley and linebacker Dan Fox from the practice squad.

    The Giants signed seven players to their practice squad: defensive ends Adewale Ojomo and Matt Broha, offensive linemen Stephen Goodin and Eric Herman, wide receivers Marcus Harris and Julian Talley and defensive back Charles James.

    David Carr driven out of New York by Giants

    The Giants have announced that they have waived quarterback David Carr, once a stalwart starter in Houston. Carr started for the Texans every year from 2002 to 2006 and led the league in completion percentage in the last of those seasons. But his record with the team was a meager 23-56. He played in 18 games with the Giants, but none as a starter. The following players have also been cut by the Giants: defensive ends Adrian Tracy, Adewale Ojomo and Matt Broha, defensive tackle Marvin Austin, linebacker Kyle Bosworth, offensive linemen Eric Herman, Matt McCants, Stephen Goodin and Bryant Browning, safety David Caldwell, cornerbacks Terrence Frederick and Charles James, and wide receivers Kevin Hardy, Marcus Harris and Julian Talley. The Giants also terminated the contract of running back Ryan Torain and waived safety Tyler Sash with an injury settlement.

    News: The New York Giants made their first round of cuts Monday and released the following players: defensive back Antwaun Molden; tight end Ryan Purvis; defensive lineman Carlton Powell; defensive back Chris Horton; wide receiver Julian Talley; wide receiver Brandon Collins; tight end Chris Hopkins; defensive back Brandon Bing; running back Joe Martinek; defensive back JoJo Nicolas; and defensive lineman Oren Wilson.
    Analysis: None of these players were expected to make a Fantasy impact this season and should be left off all rosters at this point.
