Ravens' Steve Smith: Intends to return for 2016

Smith (Achilles) said he intends to return for the 2016 season, The Baltimore Sun reports. Of course he does. Even if Smith hadn't suffered a torn Achilles amidst a lost season for his team, he might've considered un-announcing his retirement, unless the Ravens had won a Super Bowl. Not wanting to finish his career on such an obvious low note, the future Hall of Famer will take one last shot at winning his first ring. The real question is whether he'll actually be able to contribute, as a torn Achilles' is a tough injury for any player to recover from, often limiting the individual's effectiveness the following season. Given his position and age (he turns 37 in May), Smith faces a tougher path than most, even when accounting for his (in)famous determination.

Ravens' Steve Smith: Placed on IR

Smith was placed on injured reserve Wednesday. With Smith now officially out for the rest of the season, the Ravens will depend on the likes of Kamar Aiken and Marlon Brown to generate some offense from the wide receiver position. Newly signed free agent receiver Joseph Morgan will take Smith's spot on the roster and he'll have two weeks to get acclimated to Baltimore's offense with the team on a bye this week.

Ravens WR Steve Smith suffers torn Achilles

Per coach John Harbaugh, wide receiver Steve Smith will be out for the rest of the season after suffering an Achilles tear in Sunday's game against the Chargers. Brutal news for the Ravens and the veteran wideout, with the likes of Kamar Aiken, Chris Givens, Jeremy Ross, Marlon Brown -- and perhaps Breshad Perriman down the road -- candidates to see added work in the coming weeks as a result of Smith's injury.

Ravens' Steve Smith: Suffers foot injury

Smith left Sunday's game against the Chargers with a foot injury. Smith, who was carried off the field by two members of the Ravens' training staff, was unable to put weight on his right leg, which suggests that the wideout could end up missing some time with his latest injury. Prior to his exit from the contest, Smith caught five pases for 82 yards.

Ravens' Steve Smith: Active for Sunday's game against the Chargers

Smith (knee) is active for Sunday's game against the Chargers. Smith was said to be somewhat hampered in practice on Friday, but he is going to play, and he should be busy as usual.

Ravens' Steve Smith: Listed as probable for Sunday

Smith (knee) is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Chargers. Smith returned to a full practice Friday, after tweaking his knee during Thursday's session. Although his availability isn't in doubt, he did appear somewhat hobbled during Friday's practice, according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley. As the clear top option in Baltimore's passing game, Smith should still get plenty of looks. However, he'll likely be shadowed by up-and-coming cornerback Jason Verrett, and the matchup calls for a heavy dose of Justin Forsett.

    Ravens' Steve Smith: Practices Friday

Smith (knee) took part in Friday's practice, Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun reports. Smith was added to the Ravens' injury report after tweaking his knee during Thursday's practice, but his presence on the field Friday indicates the setback was only minor. It does not appear the knee injury will prevent Smith from playing this week, but the Ravens will shed more light on his status when they reveal their final injury report of the week Friday afternoon.

Ravens WR Steve Smith pops up on injury report

Ravens top wideout Steve Smith was added to the injury report as a limited participant Thursday after appearing to "tweak his knee" during practice, ESPN.com reports. Smith, who had been dealing with four microfractures in his back, did not appear on the team's initial Wednesday injury report, but his limitations Thursday now make his status for Sunday against San Diego worth tracking.

Ravens WR Steve Smith leads team in receiving in loss to Arizona

Wide receiver Steve Smith led the Ravens with 78 receiving yards from five catches (on nine targets) in Monday night's game against the Cardinals. Smith once again was regularly targeted in a Ravens passing offense otherwise devoid of reliable receivers. Given that dynamic, Smith has faced even more attention from opposing defenses this season, but has still been highly productive in four of Baltimore's six games thus far. That bodes well for the veteran in advance of his Week 8 matchup against the Chargers.

Ravens' Steve Smith: Big game Sunday

Smith (back) made seven catches on 10 targets for 137 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 25-20 loss at San Francisco. Smith was highly questionable for this game, after missing Week 5, but was once again able to make big plays, including a 34-yard touchdown late in the third quarter. He's been a boom-or-bust option so far this season, with three monster games and two clunkers, but despite the inconsistency, Smith remains Joe Flacco's most explosive and reliable weapon, partially due to a lack of other options. The veteran wideout will have a tough assignment next week, as he'll likely match up against CB Patrick Peterson when the Ravens travel to Arizona.
