Cardinals' Dwight Freeney: Tallies another sack Sunday

Freeney (knee) tallied another sack during Sunday's defeat to the Seahawks. Upon his arrival in Week 6, Freeney has bolstered the Cardinals' pass rush, notching eight sacks among nine tackles in 11 games. He was again contained to just 21 of the 72 defensive snaps in the season finale, which lines up with his usage to date in a situational role.

Since joining the Cardinals prior to Week 6, Freeney has consistently earned between 19 and 28 snaps, which has allowed him to be a terror to opposing quarterbacks. Cardinals' Dwight Freeney: Draws questionable designation for Sunday

Freeney (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Seahawks. Freeney is coming off a three-sack effort against the Packers in Week 16, though the questionable tag adds an element of risk to IDP owners considering him this week, with the Cards kicking off off at 4:25 ET on Sunday.

    Cardinals' Dwight Freeney: Active Sunday

Freeney (finger) is active for Sunday's game in Cleveland, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports. Cardinals' Dwight Freeney: Probable for Sunday

Freeney (finger) is probable for Sunday's game. Freeney will be available Sunday and take over his customary role as a situational pass-rusher. With the Cardinals set to take on the Browns, Freeney might see an increase in snaps if Arizona jumps ahead early.

    Cardinals' Dwight Freeney: Limited Wednesday

Freeney (finger) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports. Freeney was inked on Oct. 12 to act as a situational pass rusher, but was blanked in his first game with the Cardinals, despite picking up 19 snaps. That number increased slightly Monday against the Ravens, and he wreaked havoc upon Joe Flacco, notching two quarterback hits and one sack among his two tackles (one solo). As his familiarity grows with the schemes of defensive coordinator James Bettcher, Freeney is a great bet to keep up the pressure on a weekly basis.

Cardinals' Dwight Freeney: Signing with Cardinals

Freeney will sign a one-year contract with the Cardinals, NFL.com reports. Freeney played 16 games for the Chargers last season, compiling 10 tackles and 3.5 sacks in a reduced role. However, at 35 years old, Freeney's 111.5 career sacks rank among the active leaders in the league, and he's familiar with Cardinals coach Bruce Arians from their days with the Colts. While Freeney will likely occupy a specialist role, his presence could bolster an Arizona defense that has forced 13 turnovers already this season.

Chargers' Dwight Freeney to consider retirement at year's end

Chargers outside linebacker Dwight Freeney, who is in his 13th NFL season, could decide to hang it up for good after this season. Freeney told U-T San Diego he considered retiring at the end of last season when he was put on IR with a torn quad and he will do some serious evaluating this coming offseason. "I think after Year 10, I started evaluating where I'm at at the end of the year," Freeney said. "The thing is, when you're in the middle of the year, you've got too much emotion. You've got too much clouding those decisions. That's a big deal. That's a big, big decision that you're going to make that's going to affect so many people, the team, your family, your legacy. I try to leave that decision, no matter how much I go up and down or feel like, 'Yeah, I do,' or, 'No, I don't.' At the end of the year, I sit back, and I'll really think about it." Freeney has eight tackles this year including two sacks. He is currently 21st on the all-time sack list with 110, one behind his old teammate Robert Mathis.
