    Report: Nate Burleson waived by Browns

    The Browns have cut veteran wide receiver Nate Burleson, sourses have told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Burleson made his 2014 debut Thursday and caught one pass after being sidelined throughout the preseason with a hamstring injury. Injuries have limited him to just 15 games in the last two seasons combined.

    Jason LaCanfora: Several notable veterans could be released

La Canfora is speculating that the Browns could part with Nate Burleson and that the Jets might let go of fellow wide receiver Stephen Hill. The former has been limited by injury in the preseason while the latter has proven disappointing throughout his young career. Also on the bubble, according to La Canfora, is Patriots backup quarterback Ryan Mallett, though he is likely to stay because of the team's possible decision to keep three players at that position.

    The Browns have a lengthy list of players sidelined for Saturday's preseason game against the Rams, as a result of a slew of injuries in recent weeks. Defensive backs Buster Skrine (thumb) and Joe Haden (foot), and wide receiver Nate Burleson (hamstring) headline the list.     With Josh Gordon likely to be suspended, the Browns are poised to enter the season with Miles Austin and Nate Burleson as their starting outside receivers and Andrew Hawkins in the slot, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The paper calls it "one of the NFL's most pedestrian receiving groups." Austin has battled hamstring injuries and caught just 24 passes last year. Burleson, 32, has six touchdown catches over the past three years.
