    Jon Beason: Announces retirement

Beason announced Wednesday that he will retire, Jordan Raanan of reports. With word coming down earlier Wednesday that the Giants intended to release the veteran linebacker, Beason instead opted to announce his retirement. Beason had his career hampered by foot and knee injuries and as a 31-year-old linebacker, he hadn't played a dull season since 2010 and only played double-digit games once in his final five seasons. He finishes his career with 526 total tackles, three forced fumbles, and 10 interceptions.

Giants' Jon Beason: Released by Giants

Beason was released by the Giants on Wednesday, ESPN's Dan Graziano reports. The Giants parted way with a pair of veterans Wednesday, releasing Beason and guard Geoff Schwartz. According to Graziano, the moves were cap-influenced, noting that Beason's release saves the team $6 million in cap space. The 31-year-old linebacker appeared in just nine games over the past two years and finished the 2015 campaign on IR due to an ankle injury.

Giants' Jon Beason: Lands on IR Saturday

Beason (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports. Since joining the Giants in 2013, the oft-injured linebacker has played in just 19 games with the team, and he's played in 10+ games just twice in his seven year career. Considering Beason is entering the final year of his contract, the Giants could save nearly $5 million in cap space next year if they cut the 30-year-old linebacker by the beginning of March, so his presence on the roster in 2016 is far from a guarantee.

    Giants' Jon Beason: Ruled out

Beason (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game in Tampa Bay. After failing to practice all week, Beason will miss a second straight game. In his absence, Jasper Brinkley will split snaps with Uani Unga at middle linebacker.

Giants' Jon Beason: Does not practice Thursday

Beason (ankle) did not practice Thursday. Beason missed last week's contest against the Saints due to an ankle injury and after missing practice in consecutive days, the 30-year-old linebacker could be in danger of missing this week's contest against the Buccaneers as well. That decision likely won't arrive until Friday, so IDP owners looking to play Beason should check back in then.

    Giants' Jon Beason: Inactive Sunday

Beason (ankle) is inactive Sunday against the Saints. Beason played a season-high 60 snaps in Week 7 but was unable to practice this week due to the ankle injury. Uani Unga, who did not play last weekend due to a neck injury, will slot back into Beason's spot after practicing fully Thursday and Friday.

Giants' Jon Beason: Officially questionable for Sunday

Beason (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in New Orleans. Beason has spent most of the season sharing snaps with Uani Unga (neck), who is listed as probable after missing Week 7. Unga will be a strong IDP option if Beason can't play, but Beason is unlikely to have any value of his own this week.

Giants' Jon Beason: No practice Thursday

Beason (ankle) didn't participate in practice Thursday. Beason received his first substantial workload of the season in Week 7 against the Cowboys due to Uani' Unga's (neck) absence. Earning 82 percent of the defensive snaps (60 of 73), Beason racked up 11 tackles (seven solo), which dwarfed his seven tackles (four solo) in four prior appearances in 2015. With Unga practicing in full Thursday, Beason may be hard-pressed to factor into the IDP conversation for a second consecutive contest, especially if he fails to take part in drills this week.

Giants' Jon Beason: Makes seven solo tackles

Beason (knee) had seven solo tackles and four assists Sunday. He's been hurt most of the year, but when healthy, Beason is always a good source of tackles from the middle linebacker position.

    Giants' Jon Beason: Active Sunday

Beason (knee) is active for Sunday's contest against the Cowboys, the Giants' official site reports. Beason has been beset by a sprained knee and concussion this season, resulting in seven tackles scattered across four games. Taking advantage of Beason's lack of health, Uani' Unga so far leads all Giants linebackers with 71 percent of the defensive snaps, which has translated into a team-high 41 tackles. However, with Unga one due to a neck injury, their roles should reverse in Week 7.
