SS Jaquiski Tartt will start for 49ers in Week 8

Strong safety Jaquiski Tartt is listed as the starting strong safety for the 49ers heading into Sunday against St. Louis. With news of Antoine Bethea (pectoral) being placed on season-ending IR, the 49ers will call on their second round pick from this year's draft to start at safety. Tartt has the size and athleticism to play the position. He is more known for his big-hit ability rather than his coverage, so it would be safe to assume that he will be a modest source of tackles, rather than interceptions while he is starting.

S Antoine Bethea placed on IR by 49ers

Safety Antoine Bethea (shoulder) has been placed on season-ending injured reserve by the 49ers, reports ESPN. Bethea hurt his shoulder during the Thursday loss to Seattle. He is one of the league's more underrated players, and he'd been one of the few bright spots for the 49ers this season. He finishes his year with 44 tackles in seven games, after recording at least 13 appearances and 65 tackles in each of his first nine seasons.

49ers' Antoine Bethea: Suffers shoulder injury

Bethea left Thursday's game against the Seahawks with a shoulder injury and will not return. Bethea left in the second quarter and was ruled out for good during the third quarter. He did have five tackles prior to his exit, giving him 44 through six games this season. Jaquiski Tartt, a second-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, is filling in for Bethea next to Eric Reid.

49ers' Antoine Bethea: Collects 10 tackles

Bethea collected 10 tackles (six solo) in Sunday's loss to the Giants. Bethea currently sits nine tackles ahead of his pace from last year's 86-tackle season. He has still yet to record an interception, but those will come. If he continues his tackling pace, he should restore his status as a top-tier IDP safety.

Niners SS Antoine Bethea expecting major battle at CB

Antoine Bethea is set to start for the 49ers this season at strong safety with Eric Reid entrenched at free safety. But the former doesn't know who their secondary mates will be and he's expecting quite a battle. The team has no rookies at that position, but 2014 draftees Dontae Johnson, Kenneth Acker and Keith Reaser could be factors. Bethea says the competition has already begun. "We've had a short minicamp and everybody's learning, so there are really no position, but when training camp comes, there's going to be a lot of competition, a lot of good competition," he told I'm excited to see it."

Antoine Bethea does it all Week 4
