Patriots' Rob Ninkovich: Notches six tackles and 1.5 sacks Monday

Ninkovich was on the field for 52 of the Patriots' 71 defensive snaps in Monday's win over the Bills, ESPN's Mike Reiss reports. In the process, he recorded a season-high six tackles and 1.5 sacks. Ninkovich remains a key cog in the Patriots' defensive end rotation along with Chandler Jones and Jabaal Sheard, though his overall numbers (29 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 10 games to date) limits his fantasy utility to deeper formats.

    Patriots standouts don't stand out

Patriots defensive linemen Chandler Jones and Rob Ninkovich, who are normally among their top performers defensively, didn't do much statistically Week 3 against Oakland. Jones had two tackles, including one solo, and Ninkovich had six tackles, including two solo. Ninkovich's six tackles were actually a season high, but he still has only one sack this season. Jones has two.

Patriots pass rush fails to show up in opening loss

The Patriots had little success getting after the quarterback in Week 1 against the Dolphins, as Rob Ninkovich and Chandler Jones combined for no sacks in the 33-20 loss Sunday. Jones had four solo tackles in the game, while Ninkovich had five. Neither player recorded a quarterback hit in the game, as the team's pass rush was basically nonexistent.

Rob Ninkovich to benefit from improved secondary

Patriots defensive end Rob Ninkovich, who had eight sacks last season, could have a bigger year thanks to the additions of cornerbacks Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner. If the secondary covers receivers longer, Ninkovich can get to the quarterback more often. "I'm happy to have some of the new guys coming in, and we've got the best corner in the league coming in, so that's always a good thing for a defensive end like myself," Ninkovich told the Boston Herald. "Just give me a little more time, I'll be happy to use that."
