Saints' Dannell Ellerbe: Agrees to restructured deal

Ellerbe and the Saints agreed to a restructured contract, ESPN's Field Yates reports. Ellerbe signed a five-year, $35 contract with the Dolphins in 2013, then was traded to the Saints in March 2015. He's mostly been effective when healthy, but with just seven games played over the last two seasons, it was inevitable that he'd either accept a pay cut or be released. The Saints presumably have him penciled in as a starter for 2016.

Saints' Dannell Ellerbe: Limited to six games in 2015

Ellerbe is a candidate to be released or take a pay cut this offseason, according to Mike Triplett of ESPN.com. In six games this year, Ellerbe made 39 tackles (34 solo). A toe injury suffered in the preseason cost Ellerbe the first month of the year and he missed another month and a half later in the season with a nagging hip injury. In between injuries, Ellerbe, who was acquired by New Orleans in a trade last offseason, showed flashes of brilliance, including a 13-tackle performance against Atlanta in Week 6. If Ellerbe is willing to restructure his contract and, perhaps more importantly, stay healthy, he could be an IDP asset as a starting outside linebacker for the Saints.

Saints' Dannell Ellerbe: Active for Sunday's game

Ellerbe (hip) is active for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. Ellerbe was only a limited participant in practices this week, but that was good enough for the Saints to clear him to play in his first game since Oct. 25 in Indianapolis. The 30-year-old, who has produced 28 stops in the four games he's played this season, could replace James Anderson at the starting linebacker spot on the weak side.

Saints' Dannell Ellerbe: Expected to play

Ellerbe (hip) is listed as probable for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay, The Times-Picayune reports. Finally set to end his string of absences, Ellerbe is expected to suit up for the first time since Week 7. He should probably be avoided for IDP purposes, at least for one more week, as there's no assurance that he'll step back in as a three-down player.

Saints' Dannell Ellerbe: Practices in a limited capacity

Ellerbe (hip) was limited in practice Thursday. Ellerbe has missed the previous five games due to a hip injury which he suffered during Week 7, but he has been able to practice in a limited capacity in back-to-back days and could be close to returning to game-time action. More information will likely surface regarding his status this Sunday once the Saints release their Friday injury report, so IDP owners may want to check back in then for more information.

    Saints' Dannell Ellerbe: Inactive Sunday

Ellerbe (hip) is listed as inactive Sunday against the Panthers, the Saints' official site reports. In Ellerbe's fifth consecutive DNP, the Saints will again turn to Ramon Humber and Hau'oli Kikaha (ankle) to cover outside linebacker.

Saints' Dannell Ellerbe: Not expected to suit up Sunday

Ellerbe (hip) isn't expected to suit up Sunday versus the Panthers, Jeff Darlington of NFL Network reports. Although Ellerbe concluded the week with back-to-back limited showings in practice, he'll miss his fifth game in a row with a hip injury. In the meantime, expect Ramon Humber and Hau'oli Kikaha (ankle) to continue to man outside linebacker for the Saints.

Saints' Dannell Ellerbe: Set to return

Ellerbe (hip) is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Panthers. Ellerbe has only made four appearances this season, but he did play the majority of defensive snaps in three of those contests, putting up eight, 10 and six tackles in the process. He's worth keeping an eye on in IDP leagues, as there's weekly double-digit tackle potential if he steps back in as a three-down 'backer.

Saints' Dannell Ellerbe: Ruled out yet again

Ellerbe (hip) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Texans, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports. Ramon Humber and Hau'oli Kikaha will likely flank Stephone Anthony, who is easily the team's strongest IDP option at linebacker. Kikaha does have four sacks and three forced fumbles, but he's averaging just over four tackles per game. Once healthy, Ellerbe could perhaps re-enter the IDP conversation, though it seems more likely he'll have a part-time role.

Saints' Dannell Ellerbe: Ruled out for another week

Ellerbe (hip) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Redskins. Hau'oli Kikaha (ankle) is probable to return, but the Saints won't have any of Ellerbe, David Hawthorne (hamstring) and Ramon Humber (hamstring). Rookie Stephone Anthony is the only viable IDP option from the team's linebacking corps.
