Three Carolina players contribute very little Week 3

Panthers fullback Richie Brockel, running back Armond Smith and wide receiver Domenik Hixon all had very minor contributions Week 3 vs. N.Y. Giants. Brockel had one rush for 1 yard, Smith had three carries for zero yards and Hixon had one catch for 8 yards. The Panthers are on a bye Week 4 and return to action Week 5 at Arizona.

  • Brockel scores first career TD

News: With all eyes on QB Cam Newton, the Panthers turned to a trick play to stretch their big lead at Houston in Week 15. Newton took the snap, slipped the ball to Richie Brockel, and the tight end swung around the left side for a 7-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. It was the first touchdown of his career. "The whole defense really bit on that option," said Brockel. "The defense is so keyed on [Newton] and worried about him making the play, they sometimes forget about other things and their assignments." Brockel also had a 4-yard catch on the day.
Analysis: Brockel is behind both Greg Olsen and Jeremy Shockey on the depth chart, so his opportunities to make a contribution in Fantasy are few and far between. He had only one catch prior to Week 15. Despite the touchdown, he should remain on waivers in Fantasy.
  • Panthers add Brockel

News: Carolina reached an agreement with TE/FB Richie Brockel on a one-year deal Wednesday, according to the Charlotte Observer.
Analysis: Brockel was cut by San Diego last September after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent last season. The former Boise State standout is not expected to have much of a Fantasy impact and should remain ignored in all upcoming drafts.
  • Chargers make cuts

News: The Chargers released the following players Saturday: WR Seyi Ajirotutu, RB Curtis Brinkley, FB Richie Brockel, QB Jonathan Crompton, TE Dedrick Epps, WR Richard Goodman, DE Derrick Jones, FB Billy Latsko, RB Shawnbrey McNeal, LB Mike Nixon, K Nick Novak, CB Traye Simmons, S Quinton Teal, CB Nathan Vasher, WR Jeremy Williams and LB Kion Wilson.
Analysis: None of these players were expected to make an impact in 2010. Ignore them in all leagues this season.
