Bears' Willie Young: Notches a sack Sunday

Young recorded his first sack of the season in Sunday's 18-17 win over the Chiefs. After an outstanding 10-sack season with the Bears in 2014, Young found himself on the roster bubble through most of training camp with the team transitioning to a 3-4 system that made the longtime down lineman an awkward scheme fit at outside linebacker. As a result, Young had seen limited snaps through the Bears' first four games while assuming a backup role, but he gradually seems to be getting a little more comfortable. Although it appears Lamarr Houston and Sam Acho will serve as the primary replacement for the recently-traded Jared Allen, Young will continue to rotate in off the bench in pass-rushing situations.

Willie Young buried on Bears LB depth chart

Bears linebacker Willie Young was left inactive in a Week 3 loss to the Seahawks. Though he faced the stiff challenge of transitioning from a 4-3 defensive end to a 3-4 outside linebacker, while also working his way back from a torn Achilles' tendon, Young managed to earn a roster spot out of training camp. However, he still appears to be a clunky fit in the Bears' scheme, which has been reflected in his low snap counts in Weeks 1 and 2, in addition to the healthy scratch in Week 3. After Jared Allen was dealt to the Panthers on Monday, Young could have an opportunity to draw back into the active ranks for Sunday's game against the Raiders. However, he still appears to be behind Pernell McPhee, Lamarr Houston and Sam Acho in the pecking order at outside linebacker.

Bears DL Willie Young ready for starting role

Bears defensive end Willie Young is poised to see a bigger role on defense with defensive lineman Lamarr Houston (knee) going on injured reserve. "Obviously it's always tough whenever a guy goes down. But at the same time nothing changes for me whatsoever," Young said, per ESPN. Young has played in 323 snaps this season despite not being a starter. He leads the team with seven sacks. "What I bring to the table personally is what I bring to the table," Young said. "I'll continue to bring that to the table to the best of my ability. But besides that, like I said it's really tough when you lose a guy -- starter, great player across the board. We've just got to continue to try to get better day by day. I'll just keep bringing the pain, baby. That's all. Ain't nothing more to it. I'm going to just keep doing what I do."

Willie Young notches two sacks in Week 6 win vs. Falcons

Bears defensive send Willie Young racked up three tackles and two sacks in his team's 27-13 win over the Falcons in Week 6. Young was largely quiet in the win until late in the fourth quarter, when he sacked Matt Ryan on third down around midfield. On the next drive, he came through with a second sack on first down right before the two-minute warning, and the Falcons were unable to recover, throwing an incomplete pass on fourth-and-1 on their final offensive play. Young already has seven sacks in six games, proving to be a very adept free-agent pickup for the Bears defense.
