  • Beckum starts season on sideline

News: Giants tight end Travis Beckum will open the regular season on the PUP list while he continues to recover from offseason knee surgery to repair a torn ACL. Beckum has not played during the preseason and is eligible to return for Week 7 against Washington.
Analysis: Beckum has been conservative in his rehab process and did not force a return, especially since he is not expected to play an integral role in the Giants offense. New York has Martellus Bennett as their starting tight end coming into the year, and Beckum has minimal Fantasy value. He is not worth drafting in any format.
  • Beckum in no rush to return

News: The New York Daily News reports that Giants tight end Travis Beckum, who is trying to rehab from a torn ACL, promised he wouldn't rush back just for the chance to play in the Sept. 5 season opener. "If I were to say I wanted to be back by Week 1, that's putting pressure on myself," he said. "And I think that's what happens with these guys. They want to get back too soon, put the pressure on themselves, then come back and re-tear it. I'm going to try to be smart about it."
Analysis: Beckum will likely be out for the first six weeks of the season, but continue to monitor his progress. The Giants have Martellus Bennett as their starting tight end coming into the year, and Beckum has minimal Fantasy value. He is not worth drafting in the majority of leagues.

Analysis: Giants general manager Jerry Reese said he expects Beckum to begin the 2012 season on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Beckum tore his right ACL in the Giants' Super Bowl win. With Martellus Bennett joining the Giants this offseason, we wouldn't touch Beckum at all on Draft Day.
