The Basics

Q: What is Fantasy Hockey?
A: Fantasy Hockey gives you the opportunity to run your own team of professional hockey players. You draft your team of the best players from across the NHL and receive points based on those players' performances in NHL games each week of the hockey season. You set weekly lineups, propose, accept and reject trades, sign free agents, and compete against other teams in your league. If you have a group of friends you can form your own league using Fantasy Hockey Commissioner.

Q: What happens to my payment if the NHL season is shortened or canceled because of the labor dispute?
A: We've put together the CBSSports.com Power Play Guarantee to protect you in case of a shortened or canceled season. For every game week canceled in the 2012-2013 NHL season, CBSSports.com will apply a credit equal to 1/25 of the amount paid by the customer towards the customer's 2012 Fantasy Hockey Commissioner League or issue a credit refund in the same amount if so requested.

If the season is 11 game weeks or less, you'll play 2012 Fantasy Hockey Commissioner for free and we'll apply a credit equal to the full amount paid by the customer towards the customer's 2013 Fantasy Hockey Commissioner League or issue a refund in the same amount if so requested. Read the entire Power Play Guarantee terms.

Q: How much does it cost to play and what can I win?
A: Fantasy Hockey Commissioner is offered for those that want complete control and ultimate customizability at a cost of $149.99 for your entire league to play the whole season online.

Q: Is there a Free game?
A: Yes, you can play Fantasy Hockey 2012 for free! CBSSports.com offers the most comprehensive free game on the market for beginners to learn the most popular fantasy game in the world! First-timers and inexperienced users can experience the nuances of fantasy hockey and master all the great features CBSSports.com Fantasy Hockey offers in a more relaxed and less competitive atmosphere. Free leagues are not eligible for league champion prizes.

Q: What is the difference between the Free game and the Pay games (Gold and Platinum)?
A:  The Free game is more relaxed, less competitive, and intended to introduce Fantasy Hockey to first-timers and inexperienced players. The Pay games offer better competition with the chance to win league prizes for the more dedicated and experienced players.

Q: What is the difference between the Fantasy Hockey 2012 game and the Hockey Commissioner product?
A:  If you want to create a fantasy hockey league for a group of your friends, Hockey Commissioner lets you set up and run the league to your exact specifications. Acting as the league commissioner you can customize the scoring system, the rules, and the schedule based on your wants and needs. In Fantasy Hockey 2012, you can own a team in an already existing league and compete against other users. For these leagues, we act as commissioner and set all the rules for you. You simply manage your team and try to beat the rest of the league.

Q: How do I join a league?
A:  Joining a league is easy! You can either join a public league or start a private league. Public Leagues are open to anybody. If you create or join a Public league, you will have no control over who joins the league. Be sure to read the description of the league you want to join to make sure it suits your needs. If you know all the owners who are going to be in your league, or you want to recruit individuals, you may want to join or create a Private league. The person who creates a Private league sets a password and other owners use that password to join the league. If you already know all of the owners in your league and want complete control of your league's rules, you should also check out the CBSSports.com Hockey Commissioner, our powerful and fully-customizable stats service.

Q: Can I join a Winner's league?
A:  Once you win any CBSSports.com Fantasy League, you are eligible to play in our Winner's Leagues. Enjoy the increased competition as you battle against past League Champions for ultimate bragging rights!

Q: Can I play in the same league as my friends?
A:  Yes. You can create a "private" league, set a league password, and tell your friends to join. If you already have an existing league, and want to make all the rules and act as commissioner, you should check out CBSSports.com's Hockey Commissioner.

Q: How will you keep score in my league?
A:  Each league consists of 12 teams. You will manage one of the teams. You will play a weekly Head-to-Head system, where you're matched up with one team each week and the standings are determined by win/loss record. For details, please see the game's Official Rules.

Team Management

Q: What are E-Reports?
A:  You can schedule e-mail delivery of all the reports in your Fantasy league. When the reports arrive in your inbox, we refer to them as E-Reports. This includes statistics and standings reports, as well as news updates about your players and more. You can even have customized reports e-mailed. For instance, let's say you need a goalie. Sort the free agent report to display the top scoring Goalies available at the top, then have the report e-mailed every week.

Q: Will I have access to the latest NHL Fantasy news and injury reports?
A:  Absolutely! We post player news as it happens along with strategic analysis to help team owners make the right lineup decisions. Also, a list of all current NHL injuries and playing status is right on your league's site. Plus we have a full editorial schedule, with Fantasy articles and analyses from our experts throughout each week

Q: How do waivers work?
A:  To provide an equal opportunity for all owners to add players to their rosters that are new to the free agent pool, a Waivers process is used. For more details on the waiver process, please see the game's Official Rules.
