Blue Jackets' Alexander Wennberg: Avoids serious injury Saturday
Wennberg took a hard hit into the boards from Ryan Strome early in the second period of Saturday's 3-2 overtime win over the Islanders but seems to have avoided serious injury, The Columbus Dispatch reports. "It wasn't the best feeling," Wennberg said with a smile after the game. "I'm trying to turn and it happened so quick. I came in awkwardly. I don't know if he did it on purpose; I don't think so. You just try to shake it off and play."
He was able to make it off the ice under his own power after the hit and saw his usual amount of ice time, but given the nature of the hit he could have a sore neck or some whiplash heading into Sunday's game in New Jersey. Wennberg is enjoying a breakout season, having already set new career highs in goals (12) and points (54) while sitting in a tie for sixth in the NHL in power-play assists with 20, so if he does end up sitting out Sunday, it would leave a big hole in the Blue Jackets' lineup.
