Capitals' Kevin Shattenkirk: Yet another option for Golden Knights

Shattenkirk, a pending unrestricted free agent, was exposed by the Capitals ahead of the expansion draft, The Washington Post reports.

The Capitals courted Shattenkirk at this year's trade deadline for Zach Sanford, a 2017 first-round pick and conditional second-rounder for the 2019 draft. On the surface, the American rearguard appears to be a rental player -- but we won't know for sure until Vegas completes the 72-hour window of exclusive contract negotiations with any of the pending restricted or unrestricted free agents that were exposed. Shattenkirk is an elite defenseman who amassed 14 points in 19 games following his trade from the Blues. The Vegas Knights would gladly take a power-play quarterback under the right conditions, but the bigger question is whether Shattenkirk would want to play for a brand new franchise.
