Smith surrendered four goals on 33 shots before losing to Detroit in the shootout at home Thursday.
The odds were stacked against Smith with the Coyotes getting whistled for seven penalties; Detroit is dead last on the man advantage, but the Red and White actually converted on two man-advantage opportunities in this one. Still, the Coyotes led a balanced attack and sent the game into the final sequence. Unfortunately for the veteran, none of the Coyotes were able to solve Petr Mrazek, while Smith ended up kicking in a shootout attempt from Gustav Nyquist. If you're in position for the fantasy playoffs, chances are you haven't been relying on Smith as your top option in goal; he's 18-20-7 with a 2.93 GAA and similarly underwhelming .914 save mark.
