Savard's $4.1 million cap hit was acquired by New Jersey on Friday, along with a 2018 second-round pick, in exchange for Graham Black and Paul Thompson.

This is the second time Savard's contract has been shipped as he remains out on long-term injured reserve after several concussion related issues effectively ended his career. The Devils had plenty of cap room and are in the midst of a rebuild. A second-round pick will go a long way towards developing youth for the future.
