McDonald was re-assigned to AHL Lehigh Valley on Saturday, NHL.com reports.
The 31-year-old scored a goal during his first NHL stint of the year, but his services are not currently needed with both R.J. Umberger (foot) and Ryan White (shoulder) healthy. McDonald will have to bide his time, but figures to get another opportunity with Philadelphia at some point later this season.
