Murphy was reassigned to AHL Charlotte on Friday, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Murphy posted four assists in 18 games with the Hurricanes, but had been serving as a healthy scratch a lot recently. He will now return to AHL Charlotte, opening up a roster spot for the Hurricanes to recall Jaccob Slavin on Friday.
