Hurricanes' Viktor Stalberg: Pots two first-period goals in loss

Stalberg's two goals in the first period accounted for all of Carolina's offense in a 3-2 loss to the Rangers on TUesday.

The Blueshirts employed the Swedish winger last year, but let him go over the offseason following his meager 20 points in 75 games. His response was to exact revenge in his return to Madison Square Garden, as Stalberg tied his season high with five shots and picked up his first two-goal game since way back on Dec. 2, 2011 -- a span of nearly five years in which he's played for four NHL franchises. The 30-year-old has been on a heater of late, scoring four times in the last five games after picking up only three points in his first 16. Still, considering his modest ice time, it's hard to expect this to persist.
