Lucic told reporters Wednesday that he is headed toward free agency on July 1 after failing to reach an agreement with Los Angeles, Pierre LeBrun of ESPN reports.

Lucic had a great first season with the Kings, as he competed in 81 contests while snagging 20 goals and 35 helpers. With the 2016 NHL Entry Draft set for Friday, teams could look at acquiring the winger's rights prior to the opening of free agency in order to negotiate with him exclusively. If he makes it to the open market, the 28-year-old becomes one of the top targets for clubs with plenty of cap space available.
