Panthers' Mike Matheson: Called up from minors

Matheson has been recalled from AHL Portland.

Matheson, a speedy rearguard with offensive talent, failed to latch on with the Panthers out of training camp, but he's someone to keep an eye on long-term as a first-round (23rd overall) draft selection in 2012. With the addition of Matheson, who essentially trades places with fellow blueliner Brent Regner, the Panthers have the requisite six healthy blueliners as they prepare for Saturday's home match against the Jets. Meanwhile, Willie Mitchell (lower body) and Erik Gudbranson (upper body) remain on injured reserve.
