Rinne gave up a single goal on 23 shots in Thursday's 2-1 overtime win at Washington.

The Caps own the NHL's best record, so this is a big win for Rinne as he and the Preds continue driving toward the playoffs. It was also a rather unexpected one, as Rinne has been pretty awful over the last month-plus -- this game snapped a stretch of 11 straight contests of two or more goals, including six four-goal affairs. This has been a season of streaks and slumps for Rinne, but the stat line is shaping up to be fairly similar to last year's. His main source of value at this point is his volume, and with how handily backup Juuse Saros is outplaying him, Rinne's long-term lock on the Nashville net has become an open question.
