Senators' Mike Hoffman: Erupts for hat trick, assist in loss

Hoffman dropped a hat trick (including a power-play goal), adding an assist and a plus-2 rating during Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Sabres.

Hoffman was a ticking time bomb waiting to explode. The winger was unable to register a hat trick in 2015-16, but it was only a matter of time until his shots started turning into goals this year -- he had 62 coming into Tuesday. His early total of four goals and eight assists through 20 games wasn't ideal, but with one big night, the 27-year-old jump-started his quest to reach 20-plus tallies for a third straight season. Hoffman has reached the scoresheet in four of the past five, and it seems like he's just getting started.
