Stafford has been bumped up to a spot on David Krejci's line in advance of Thursday's game against the Lightning, CSN New England's Joe Haggerty reports. Stafford is slated to man the left wing; David Pastrnak will patrol the right side. While Stafford hasn't scored a point over his last three games, working with such highly skilled linemates offers hope that the veteran forward can get back into the scoring groove Thursday.
Stafford (personal), who missed practice Sunday, skated on a line with Frank Vatrano and Ryan Spooner at Monday's morning skate. Stafford, whose wife gave birth to twins over this past weekend, was back with the team Monday morning and is thus in line to suit up in the Bruins' evening tilt against Toronto. Since being acquired at the NHL trade deadline, Stafford has been a solid addition to the lineup, chipping in two goals and five points over his first seven games in a Boston uniform.
Stafford left the team to be with his wife while she was in labor, but is expected to be back in Toronto for Monday's game against the Maple Leafs. The Bruins recalled a couple of forwards over the weekend in the event that Stafford and Patrice Bergeron (minor issues) are unavailable for Monday's contest. While neither is guaranteed to play, Stafford will if he makes it to Toronto in time for the tilt. Assuming he does, the veteran winger may flank David Krejci and David Pastrnak again as he attempts to add to his five points in seven games since joining the team.
Stafford recorded an assist through 14:56 of ice time during Wednesday's win over Calgary. Now up to two goals, five points and 19 shots through six games with the Bruins, the veteran winger is making an offensive impact with his new club. However, Stafford spent most of Wednesday's game with Ryan Spooner and Matt Beleskey in a third-line role, so his hot start might prove to be unsustainable. Still, Stafford is worth a look in deep seasonal leagues or as a mid- to low-priced flier in daily contests.
Stafford scored on a long shot with 5.6 seconds remaining to give the Bruins a 2-1 win over the Flyers on Saturday afternoon. He lobbed it into the zone and it was going wide until the puck defected off Brandon Manning's stick past a startled Steve Mason. Stafford has five points, including two goals, in five games since joining Boston and he's getting time on the power play. Short term, he could be the antidote you need to manage injuries.
