Hiller will get the start Saturday against San Jose, Scott Cruickshank of the Calgary Herald reports. Hiller hasn't played in nearly a month due to a hip injury but appears all healed up. Karri Ramo has played decently in his absence, but not well enough to put an end to the two-goalie rotation with Hiller. They will likely split time fairly evenly unless one gets hot.
Hiller (hip) was activated Thursday, the Calgary Sun's Randy Sportak reports. He will spell Karri Ramo in goal for the Flames. Joni Ortio was assigned to the AHL as a corresponding move.
Hiller (hip) remains approximately a week away from clearance for game action, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 the Fan reports. Hiller's return date remained a bit unclear, but his return to practice Monday appeared to be a good sign. Hiller will require another week of recovery time before rejoining the club, leaving Joni Ortio as the backup for the Flames in Hiller's absence.
Hiller (hip) skated for the first time since October 28 during Monday's practice, Roger Millions of Sportsnet Calgary reports. Hiller was seen doing individual work with the Flames' goalie coach during practice. A player will usually have to take place in a few full practices before returning to game action after an extended absence, so don't expect Hiller to be ready for Tuesday's game with New Jersey. However, with the Flames reassigning Derek Grant, it leaves an open spot on the Flames roster for whenever Hiller is activated from injured reserve.
Hiller is making progress in his recovery from a hip injury, according to assistant GM Brad Pascall, who estimates that the goalie will be back in a week to 10 days, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The FAN reports. This is an encouraging development for Hiller, who has not been between the pipes since Oct. 28, when he sustained the injury during a road game against the Senators. The Flames reportedly acquired netminder Kevin Poulin from Tampa Bay on Thursday, and while he'll immediately report to the AHL Heat, it's believed that Poulin could add some goalie insurance for the 5-10-1 Flames. Of course, Karri Ramo and Joni Ortio have been trying to hold down the fort in the meantime.
