Zetterberg scored a goal and tacked on an assist in Sunday's 4-3 overtime win over the Islanders. The Swede has turned back the clock lately, scoring goals in three straight games and recording seven points over his last six. That gives Zetterberg 19 points in 26 contests and is proof that the 36-year-old is still an above average fantasy commodity when healthy.
Zetterberg potted another goal Saturday -- his fifth of the season -- in Saturday's loss to the Penguins. The Swede loves his backhand scoops; that's how he scored in this one, and now the veteran is up to 17 points in 25 games. While the lack of game-to-game consistency remains a problem for Zetty, his owners can find solace in the fact that he's working with a plus-3 rating on the season after going minus-21 over the previous two seasons.
Zetterberg buried an unassisted goal Thursday night in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Panthers. The Swedish captain roped a beautiful backhand on the top shelf for his fourth goal of the season. Zetterberg has finished with a shooting percentage north of 10.0 just once in the past seven campaigns, and it's apparent that he's lost some trust in his sniping ability over time. In fact, this season, he's had six games without any shots on goal. The Red Wings and fantasy owners alike need Zetterberg to be more assertive in the attacking zone.
Zetterberg registered a pair of assists Friday in a 5-4 overtime win over the Devils. The captain is up to 14 points (three goals, 11 assists) in 21 games to complement a plus-3 rating. Those are decent totals for a player of his caliber, but he's been maddeningly inconsistent from one game to the next, having secured points on back-to-back games just twice this season.
Zetterberg hit the back of the net on the man advantage against the Lightning on Tuesday, though he ended up with a minus-2 rating and the Red Wings took a 4-3 loss at home. Zetterberg was on the receiving end of a slick behind-the-back pass from rookie Anthony Mantha for his third goal of the season. We wouldn't be concerned about Big Z's poor rating in this one, as it was only the third time in 17 games that he's been on the undesirable side of the plus-minus column.
