Doughty tallied a goal, four shots and a minor penalty in 25:01 of ice time in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Ducks on Sunday. The 27-year-old ended the season recording a goal in three of the final four games. Doughty saw a dip in production pretty much across the board, but that could be because the Kings cut back on his ice time slightly, as he averaged almost a minute less per game this season. Despite the small decreases, Doughty remains one of the steadiest fantasy defensemen in the league.
After going 26 games without scoring a goal, Doughty scored a power-play goal Thursday against the Jets. It was Doughty's first goal since Jan. 21, as he unleashed a bomb from the point that went untouched and straight past Mark Stuart and Connor Hellebucyk. It was Doughty's ninth of the season, which is in line with his career average despite the lengthy goal drought, and with 41 points this season he's now registered his third straight 40-point season. What's most impressive is his plus-3 rating even though the Kings have a minus-3 goal differential. Given his ability to provide fantasy owners with hits and blocked shots, Doughty remains one of the league's top fantasy defensemen.
Doughty has gone 24 games without a goal. He still has 14 assists in that span and sits in the NHL's top-20 scorers from the blue line with 38 points (eight goals, 30 assists). Doughty is fourth overall on a relatively low-scoring Kings squad and continues to log heavy minutes every game. He's a steady and effective fantasy blueliner, but his overall offensive contributions will always be below his potential because of the team's defensive approach.
Doughty factored in both Kings' goals on Saturday's game against the Islanders. He picked up an assist with the man advantage and scored an even-strength goal in a 4-2 loss. Doughty is a beast, but he's only on pace for a 44-point season, which is a big step down for a guy who broke the 50-point barrier last year. The drop runs parallel to the Kings poor performance this season and they're in a dogfight to win a wild card.
Doughty scored a power-play goal and registered a shorthanded assist with two shots on net over 29:52 of ice time during Monday's loss to Dallas. The workhorse defenseman has quieted a cold stretch -- one goal and two points through 10 previous games -- with consecutive multi-point showings and is now up to seven goals, 22 points and 96 shots for the campaign. His solid offensive numbers are supported by dependable peripheral statistics and a huge workload (27:09 of ice entering Monday's game). It all adds up to Doughty continuing to be a second-tier rearguard for your fantasy club and a worthy look in daily contests when Los Angeles draws a favorable matchup.
