The Flyers have recalled McDonald from AHL Lehigh Valley. The 31-year-old McDonald gives the Flyers added depth and experience up front for their playoff run, but he's only worth a look in the deepest of postseason formats, given his modest upside on offense. McDonald -- who has 14 goals and 32 points in 51 AHL games to date in 2015-16 -- has notched one goal in his five games with the big club this season.
McDonald was re-assigned to AHL Lehigh Valley on Saturday, NHL.com reports. The 31-year-old scored a goal during his first NHL stint of the year, but his services are not currently needed with both R.J. Umberger (foot) and Ryan White (shoulder) healthy. McDonald will have to bide his time, but figures to get another opportunity with Philadelphia at some point later this season.
McDonald tallied his first goal of the season with the Flyers on Friday in just his second game with the club. McDonald took advantage of the opportunity afforded him due to Sam Gagner's injury, and put two shots on net, and recorded three hits and five penalty minutes in the contest in 7:39 of ice time. It's unclear how long he'll remain with the club, especially with R.J. Umberger starting to close in on a return, but he'll look to do all he can to make the decision tougher. McDonald will get another chance to leave an impression Saturday as the Flyers take on the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
The Flyers have recalled McDonald from AHL Lehigh Valley. McDonald pitched in two assists in four games with the Phantoms ahead of the call-up. He figures to get some playing time with parent club since Sam Gagner is dealing with an upper-body injury.
Colin McDonald signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Flyers on Friday.
