Strachan was released from camp Friday. Strachan was signed to a tryout and and trying to get a contract with the Sabres. He currently is on an AHL-only deal with AHL Rochester, and if the Sabres are in need of extra bodies on defense will give him first look. For now, Strachan is depth for the Sabres organization and their AHL affiliate.
Strachan (ankle) is expected to skate Friday, the Olean Times Herald reports. The ankle injury sidelined Strachan for a week and he will likely dress in Buffalo's final preseason game in Ottawa for a final chance to impress the coaches. However, the 31-year-old journeyman may have a chance to keep a roster spot if Rasmus Ristolainen remains unsigned, and if Dmitry Kulikov (back) and Zach Bogosian (groin) aren't ready to go. Still, his fantasy value is virtually nil.
Fedun resumed skating Saturday after dealing with an ankle injury. Fedun's ankle injury was minor and didn't keep him off the ice for long. The journeyman defenseman is fighting for a roster spot, but will likely begin the season with AHL Rochester.
Strachan is dealing with an ankle injury. It's unclear at this point when Strachan sustained the ailment. Either way, the 31-year-old defenseman was an unlikely candidate to make the Opening Night roster and this recent setback may assure that he'll begin the season in the AHL.
Strachan was sent to Iowa of the AHL, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. He'll get some extra ice time in the AHL during the All-Star break and could be called back up to the NHL shortly after.
