Player News
  • Van Riemsdyk (foot) was placed on injured reserve by the Maple Leafs on Monday, James Mirtle of The Globe and Mail reports. Van Riemsdyk will miss 6-8 weeks because of the injury, so the Maple Leafs will use the move to open up a roster spot for the return of Nick Spaling on Tuesday. There's been no real update on his timetable, so at this point it's probably best to assume there's no change until otherwise noted.

Van Riemsdyk was having a productive season prior to getting hurt, leading the Maple Leafs in scoring with 29 points in 40 contests. The 26-year-old was also contributing on the power play, registering five goals and four assists with the man advantage. The winger's injury will be a tough pill to swallow for a Toronto team already trailing in the push for the playoffs.

  • Van Riemsydk scored and dished out a pair of assists in Monday's win over the Avalanche. It was arguably JVR's best performance of the season, as he also finished the night with a plus-4 rating to bring him up to plus-3 on the season. He's now found the back of the net in four of the last five games and looks to be heating up after starting the year off slowly.
