Berube was sent to the AHL for a conditioning stint Tuesday, reports Islanders web site. The Islanders claimed Berube off waivers just before the season started because Jaroslav Halak was banged up and they needed goaltending insurance. Berube has only played one game for team this season and with both Halak and Thomas Greiss healthy, that is unlikely to change.
Berube made his NHL debut Saturday, stopping 30 of 34 shots in a loss to the Blackhawks. A decent showing from Berube, who did his best against a potent Blackhawks offense. With starter Jaroslav Halak sidelined with an upper-body injury, Berube was claimed off waivers to temporarily fill the backup role behind Thomas Greiss. He's posted a .913 save percentage two consecutive seasons in the AHL, so even if he does happen to see more action in the Islanders crease, don't expect anything spectacular.
Berube to start in goal Saturday Night. After being claimed off waivers by the Islanders Tuesday, Berube will start at goalie Saturday night. The Islanders will be looking for their first win of the season.
J.F. Berube was claimed off waivers by the Islanders Tuesday, TSN's Frank Seravalli reports.
J.F. Berube was reassigned to AHL Manchester on Thursday, Helene Elliott of the Los Angeles Times reports.
