Rissanen signed a two-year contract with Jokerit Helsinki of the KHL on Monday. The 2009 sixth-round pick spent all of 2015-16 in the AHL with Charlotte, accumulating 13 points over 54 games. He will now return to his native Finland on a two-year deal to play in the KHL. At just 24 years of age, it's possible he will return to the US again at some point but there's no guarantee of that at this point.
Rissanen has been reassigned to AHL Charlotte. While Rissanen was called up to the parent club Tuesday, he ultimately wasn't needed in an overtime win against the Avalanche on Wednesday. He's an organizational depth option for the Hurricanes at this juncture.
Rissanen was recalled by the Hurricanes on Tuesday. Rissanen will serve as the Hurricanes seventh defender for the final five games of their seven game road trip, starting Wednesday night against the Avalanche. The 24-year-old defender tallied 11 points (one goal, 10 assists) in 52 games with AHL Charlotte last season.
