Khokhlachev was reassigned to AHL Providence on Saturday. Khokhlachev suited up for one game during his most-recent stay with the big club, logging just 6:01 of ice time in Friday's NHL Winter Classic against Montreal. His demotion could signal that Joonas Kemppainen, who was placed on injured reserve on Dec. 8 with an upper-body injury, is nearing a return to action. Khokhlachev has tallied an impressive 25 points in 22 games with the Baby Bruins this season, and will likely get another opportunity with the parent club in the near future.
The Bruins have recalled Khokhlachev from AHL Providence in advance of Friday's NHL Winter Classic, NESN.com reports. With Brad Marchand set to serve a three-game suspension and David Krejci out with an injury, opportunity knocks for Khokhlachev, who continues to produce at the AHL level. The skilled 22-year-old has recorded 25 points in 22 games for Providence this season, but is still looking for his first NHL point, after having played a combined eight games at the NHL level to date. At Thursday's practice, Khokhlachev skated on the Bruins' third line, along with Frank Vatrano and Landon Ferraro.
Khokhlachev has been reassigned to AHL Providence, per Bruins coach Claude Julien. Khokhlachev had gone minus-1 without any points in four games with the parent club, but the skilled Russian should get meaningful minutes in the minors, develop further, and then return to the parent club once polished. His playmaking prowess is tough to ignore, as someone that has set up 14 scores in 17 games with Providence this season.
Khokhlachev was recalled from AHL Providence on Tuesday. Khokhlachev has excelled in Providence this season, netting six goals and 147 assists in just 17 contests. In his previous two games with Boston this year, the 22-year-old failed to tally a point and was minus-1. A top producer in the AHL, Khokhlachev is still looking for the first NHL point.
Khokhlachev (hand) returned to action Friday against AHL Portland. Khokhlachev underwent hand surgery on Nov. 10, and has missed AHL Providence's last nine games as a result. The 22-year-old forward is now back to full health, and has returned to game action with the Providence Bruins. The former second-round draft pick could get another chance with the Bruins at some point this season, but will need to play well in the AHL in order to earn that opportunity.
