Chara recorded an assist, three shots on net, four blocked shots, a minor penalty and three hits during Sunday's win over Chicago. It's been a throwback run for the veteran, as Chara has posted two goals, nine points, 23 shots, 29 blocked shots, 11 PIM and 24 hits with a plus-12 rating through his past 13 games. The 40-year-old defenseman's current roll moves the needle in the majority of fantasy settings, and Chara is likely presenting profit potential in daily contests.
Chara recorded two assists, three shots, three blocked shots and a plus-2 rating during Wednesday's win over Detroit. The veteran snapped a four-game point drought with the two-assist night, and it was also his first multi-point showing in 10 outings. For the campaign, Chara has only registered six goals and 20 points through 60 games. However, nine of those points have come through the past 14 games. Considering his strong peripheral coverage (107 shots, 113 blocked shots, 44 PIM, 103 hits and plus-11 rating), his fantasy value is trending up, so Chara should be viewed as a worthwhile asset in most fantasy settings going forward.
Chara teed up from the blue line for his sixth goal of the season in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Ducks. The giant rearguard was hanging around his typical spot from the left point when he received a laser pass from forward David Backes, proceeding to rifle the puck through three defenders and past Ducks goalie Jonathan Bernier. Chara now has two goals and three assists in six February games, but he's not getting much power-play time these days -- he's only averaging 28 seconds per game in that spot -- with an assist representing his lone marker on the man advantage through 53 games. The 39-year-old is garnering 23:09 of ice time, but it's been a bit painful to watch him lug his towering self about the ice in search of points. Expect inconsistent offensive production from Chara.
Chara scored a shorthanded goal in Sunday's win over Montreal. A clutch effort from Chara, who also piled on three assists in a game against Toronto recently. The 6'9" blueliner only has 16 points on the season, but he's been hot of late and continues to supply decent PIM. What hurts Chara's fantasy value is the fact he no longer plays on the power play, but his five even-strength goals make him worth owning in some deep leagues. His best years are behind him, but his recent play proves that he still possesses fantasy value.
Chara (illness) said that he had a good practice Friday and "should be good to go" for Saturday's game against the Canucks. While it can sometimes be difficult to trust players about their own health, the fact that Chara got a full practice in bodes well for his chances of playing Saturday and it seems safe to trust him at his word in this scenario. Despite the recent firing of coach Claude Julien, the Bruins put up six goals and allowed only three in Thursday's win over the Sharks, so it will be interesting to see how the veteran Chara fits into the post-Julien landscape when he returns.
