Morrissey was reassigned to AHL Manitoba on Sunday. Morrissey, the 13th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, played his first game with the Jets on Saturday. He'll turn 21 in late March and has 22 points (three goals) in 56 AHL appearances this season.
Morrissey was recalled from the Jets' AHL Manitoba affiliate Friday, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports. Morrissey struggled offensively to begin the 2015-16 campaign, tallying just six points over the first 28 games with the club. However, he broke out of that slump to add 16 points in the next 28 contests. As a result of his recent play, the 20-year-old, former 13th overall pick will finally receive his first taste of the NHL. It's unclear how much action the youngster will see with the club, but he's likely an insurance policy for Saturday's game in case Jacob Trouba (undisclosed) ends up missing. Given Morrissey's offensive skill set, he may be an intriguing option in daily formats at near minimum cost.
Joshua Morrissey is expected to open the upcoming season with AHL Manitoba, the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Joshua Morrissey remains in contention for an Opening Night roster spot with the Jets, Joanne Ireland of the Edmonton Journal reports.
