Griffin has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Bruins, NESN.com reports. Griffith finished the 2015-16 season second in AHL scoring with 77 points (including 24 goals) in 57 games for Providence. Given his production level in the minors, Griffin could challenge for a full-time NHL role next season, though the 23-year-old forward's offensive upside is accompanied by modest size and a limited physical element to his game.
Griffith finished second in AHL scoring with 77 points (including 24 goals) in 57 games for AHL Providence. The 23-year-old forward has 34 NHL games under his belt to date, over which he has notched six goals and 11 points. Griffith's productive campaign at the AHL level this season suggests that he could make a run at a full-time gig with the big club in 2016-17, though his modest size and the limited physical element of his game are issues that Griffith will need to deflect with his offensive potential.
The Bruins have assigned Griffith to AHL Providence. Griffith, who did not record a point in his recent two-game stint with the big club, returns to Providence as the team's leading scorer, with 67 points in 51 AHL games this season. He remains on the Bruins' short list of call-ups, however, for however long the team's season lasts.
The Bruins have recalled Griffith from AHL Providence on an emergency basis, NESN.com reports. With center David Krejci not practicing Wednesday, quite possibly for maintenance reasons, Griffith worked on a line with Matt Beleskey and David Pastrnak. If Krejci is able to play Friday against the Blues, it's unclear where Griffith might slot into the B's lineup for the contest, but there's a chance that both he and fellow Wednesday recall Austin Czarnik could suit up, with both Ryan Spooner and Brett Connolly dealing with injuries. Though he recently missed time with an eye injury, Griffith still leads Providence in scoring with 67 points in 51 games. In 32 NHL games to date in previous stints with the big club, the 23-year-old forward has recorded six goals and 11 points.
Griffith (eye) returned to action Wednesday against AHL Hartford. In his first game back since suffering an eye injury March 5th against the Portland Pirates, Griffith chipped in an assist, lifting his team-leading point total to 64 in 49 contests. With Frank Vatrano now up with the big club, Griffith is on the B's short-list of call-ups, along with the likes of Max Talbot, Alexander Khokhlachev and Joonas Kemppainen (health permitting).
