Duclair is slated to play Friday against the Hurricanes, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports. Duclair has logged just three goals and nine points over 41 games with the Coyotes this season, but his results in 2015-16 (20 goals, 24 assists in 81 games) offer evidence the 21-year-old is capable of more production now that he's back at the NHL level following a stint with AHL Tuscon.
Duclair was recalled from AHL Tuscon on Wednesday. After a promising 2015-16 campaign at the top level, the youngster struggled enough in his second full season to warrant a demotion back to the minors in mid-January to get things sorted out. He's tallied eight points in 16 games in the AHL, so it's unclear whether he's done that exactly. Nonetheless, the Coyotes' offloading of multiple pieces ahead of the trade deadline should open up playing time for younger players like Duclair the rest of the way.
Duclaier was demoted to the team's AHL Tuscon affiliate prior to Thursday's game against the Wild. Duclair's 2016 campaign has been less than ideal, notching just nine points over 41 games after a breakout season with Arizona last year in which he tallied 44 points (20 goals, 24 assists) over 81 games. The youngster has a good shot at being recalled again this season should another forward go down due to injury, but he's not very intriguing unless he can regain his form from last year.
Duclair posted a minus-3 rating and received just 10:21 of ice time during Wednesday's loss to Winnipeg. Over his previous 10 games, Duclair averaged 16:14 of ice time, so his dip in minutes is a concern for his already dwindling fantasy value. The 21-year-old winger is a fantasy afterthought in the majority of seasonal settings at this point, and while there could be optimism in keeper/dynasty formats, Duclair has shown nothing this season to provide any incentive to chase his name value. Things could get worse in the desert as the trade deadline approaches, too.
Duclair has just one goal, four points and 25 shots on net through 21 games this year. After finishing last season with a 19.0 shooting percentage, some negative regression in the category should have been expected, but the pendulum has swung too far in the wrong direction for Duclair. Additionally, he's also averaging just 1.19 shots per game, which is even lower than his 1.29 mark from last year. Further concerning, Duclair is receiving just 13:26 of ice time per night and 1:44 of power-play time, which are also both lower than his marks from last year. At this point, there aren't many seasonal leagues where Duclair warrants ownership, considering his limited role and offensive production.
