Nordstrom failed to crack the scoresheet for the 25th consecutive game during Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Maple Leafs. Following last season's 24-point effort that saw him log top-six minutes on a line with Jordan Staal and Andrej Nestrasil, Nordstrom has gone completely the other way this season with just eight points in 65 contests. His ice time has been reduced by roughly three minutes per game on average (from 15:38 last season to 12:40) as he skates primarily on the Canes' fourth line. Unless your league rewards for shorthanded ice time (Nordstrom is second among all Canes forwards with 1:38 per game), he is currently not worthy of a spot on your fantasy roster.
Nordstrom was scoreless with no shots on goal in 11:32 of ice time in Friday's 2-1 overtime loss against the Avalanche. Nordstrom hasn't recorded a point in 14 games dating back to Jan. 8, and the bottom-six forward hasn't lit the lamp since Dec. 17. His playing time is down to the 10-12 minute neighborhood, and he is lucky to get that with his lack of production lately. Avoid the fourth-line center in all but the deepest of fantasy pools until he starts to add offense on a consistent basis.
Nordstrom scored his third goal of the season in Saturday's 2-1 shootout win over the Sabres. However, he saw just 8:50 in ice time, his third-lowest TOI of the season. The good news is, Nordstrom has seen an uptick in his scoring lately, with three points in his last four games. However, the sudden drop in ice time is a bit worrying -- he was previously averaging 14-15 minutes in a top-six role, but he spent most of Saturday's game playing on a checking line with Jay McClement and Viktor Stalberg. Keep an eye on his linemates and his minutes over the next few games, and don't be afraid to bench him if his new fourth-line role continues.
Nordstrom snapped a six-game pointless drought with an assist Tuesday against the Rangers. With just four points in 22 games this season, Nordstrom is not currently a threat to top the career-high 24 points he racked up last season. Mind you, given that he's seeing roughly two minutes less in ice time compared to last season (13:26 vs. 15:38), it's not hard to see why. As long as he remains in his current bottom-six role, Nordstrom does not possess much fantasy value in most standard formats.
Nordstrom scored his first goal of the season in the third period Tuesday against San Jose, breaking a scoreless tie and leading to a 1-0 win. Nordstrom's season had featured a meager two assists in 14 games, so this was a big moment for the bottom-six winger. Still just 24, he does have some upside, but we haven't seen a lot from him this year. Wait for more proof in the pudding before you go and use resources on picking him up.
