The Jets have assigned Petan to AHL Manitoba, Sara Orlesky of TSN reports. Petan recorded a single goal for his only point in 14 games, though the Jets' decision to send him to the minors means he will now have a chance to play meaningful minutes and continue to develop in a lower-pressure setting.
Petan (illness) will indeed play Tuesday against Minnesota, Paul Wiecek of the Winnipeg Free Press reports. As was expected following Tuesday's morning skate, Petan will hit the ice on a line with Chris Thorburn and center Andrew Copp. Copp is another talented rookie and Thorburn has underrated hands for a career fourth liner, which could result in more attacking zone time for Petan and the Jets' fourth line.
Petan (illness) appears to be getting geared up for his return to the lineup Tuesday against Minnesota, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports. Petan missed the Jets' last game Saturday, but left the ice with the group after Tuesday's morning skate. Meanwhile, Anthony Peluso remained on the ice following morning skate for individual work, usually an indicator that a player will be a healthy scratch. Petan is an ultra-talented playmaker who scored 202 points in his last two years of junior hockey, but will likely continue in a fourth-line role that has stifled his offensive production since making the jump to the NHL.
Petan (illness) won't play Saturday against the Flyers, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports. Petan was reportedly feeling a bit "under the weather" Saturday morning, prompting head coach Paul Maurice to swiftly rule the young center out of Saturday's tilt against Philadelphia. Patrice Cormier will likely draw into the Jets' lineup Saturday in Petan's absence.
Petan scored his first career goal on a deflection in his first career game Thursday on Opening Night in Boston. A star in junior hockey with the WHL's Portland Winterhawks, Petan comes to the NHL at age 20 with a boatload of long-term upside. That said, near-term expectations should be tempered, as Petan skated just 10 minutes on the fourth line for Winnipeg in the opener. It's not going to be easy for him to move up the ranks at left wing unless the Jets suffer some injuries.
