Petan will likely suit up against the Islanders on Thursday after serving as a healthy scratch in five of the Jets' last six contests, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports. Petan will likely be replacing Shawn Matthias (undisclosed), who's considered questionable to play. If both players crack the lineup, Chris Thorburn would be the odds-on favorite to be scratched. Petan's recent assignment to the press box came after he failed to secure a point in 16 consecutive appearances, going minus-9 with only 17 shots on net during that stretch.
Petan can't seem to buy a point, as he has been held off the scoresheet in 13 consecutive games. Despite averaging a mere 9:42 of ice time during his drought, Petan continues to log time with the man advantage -- 1:59 per night over that stretch. Given his role as a power-play specialist, it certainly will be disappointing to fantasy owners to see his slump drag on. If the center can't figure out how to start scoring, coach Paul Maurice will need to consider other options on his special teams unit.
Petan has garnered a pair of helpers in his last five outings. Despite averaging nearly a minute less of ice time over his last five games -- 11:41 compared to 12:33 on the year -- Petan has capitalize by writing his name on the scoresheet. Of the center's 12 points this season, seven have come with the man advantage where he is averaging 2:16 of ice time per game. The 21-year-old's inclusion on the PP has yet to translate into consistent scoring, making him a low-end fantasy option.
Petan (lower body) will suit up against the Canucks on Tuesday after a 10-game absence, Ted Wyman of the Winnipeg Sun reports. Petan has been on the ice for just 13 contests this season in which he compiled seven points, including four power-play helpers. As a result of the 21-year-old being cleared, Chris Thorburn has been bumped from the lineup and will be watching Tuesday's matchup from the press box. If the center can reclaim his spot on the power play, he might be worth a look from fantasy owners, but without that extra 1:55 of ice time per night, his opportunities are probably too limited to warrant a spot on your roster.
Petan (lower body) is expected to miss a couple more weeks, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports. Petan remains on injured reserve and has already missed the Jets' previous four outings. Given he has just one helper in his last five outings, fantasy owners may want to consider dumping the center, if you haven't already. When healthy this season, the 21-year-old has put up decent numbers -- seven points in 13 contests -- but has probably not shown enough to make him worth stashing away, except perhaps in dynasty or keeper leagues.
