Zbynek Michalek (upper body) is expected to play Wednesday against the Ducks, according to Coyotes head coach Dave Tippett Michalek apparently is no worse for the wear after injuring himself in warmups prior to Saturday's eventual win over the Penguins. The Czech defenseman has never reached 25 points in his career since entering the league with the Wild in 2003-04.
Michalek (upper body) was scratched prior to Saturday's 2-1 win against the Penguins. Michalek skated during warm ups, but was ultimately scratched from the lineup. He was replaced by Stefan Elliott, who skated just 12:58. With Michalek out, Nicklas Grossmann and Michael Stone saw an increase in playing time. It's unclear if Michalek will return Wednesday against Anaheim, but he was on the ice for Monday's practice, which is a good sign.
Zbynek Michalek netted the Coyotes' first goal of the season in the opener Friday against Los Angeles. Michalek sent a shot through traffic that deflected off a Kings player before beating Jonathan Quick 2:00 into the first period. It was a critical goal that paced the Coyotes all game. Michalek played the second-most minutes on the team (20:13) behind Oliver Ekman-Larsson. He also finished with a team-high plus-3 rating. If Arizona is for real this season, Michalek figures to benefit as a top pairing defenseman.
Zbynek Michalek signed a two-year, $6.4 million contract with the Coyotes on Wednesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Zbynek Michalek scored his fourth goal of the season and added an assist in Friday's win over Dallas.
