Free agent RW Jonathan Filewich signed a contract with Red Bull Salzburg in Austria Thursday. The Blues had picked up the career minor leaguer from Pittsburgh in December for a conditional sixth-round draft pick in 2010.
The St. Louis Blues acquired Jonathan Filewich from Pittsburgh for a conditional sixth-round draft pick in 2010. Filewich was drafted by Pittsburgh in the third round, 70th overall, in 2003. He will report to the Blues' AHL team in Peoria, Ill.
The Pittsburgh Penguins signed C Jeff Taffe to a one-year contract on Monday, giving him a chance to play a second season with the team. The 6-foot-3, 208-pound forward debuted with the Penguins in December. In 45 games, Taffe had five goals and seven assists. The native of Hastings, Minn., was originally chosen by the St. Louis Blues in the first round of the 2000 NHL draft. In 145 career games with the Penguins, the Phoenix Coyotes and the New York Rangers, Taffe has 20 goals and 20 assists. The Penguins also re-signed F Jonathan Filewich to a two-year contract on Monday. He played five games with the Penguins last season, but spent most of the season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, where he had 10 goals and 21 assists in 71 games.

Sidney Crosby was placed on injured reserve Monday, a move that allowed the Pittsburgh Penguins to add an extra forward for their final two games before the All-Star break. The Penguins recalled forwards Chris Minard, Tim Brent and Jonathan Filewich from their Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL) farm club. Forward Adam Hall (groin) also went on the injured list and defenseman Ryan Lannon was returned to Wilkes-Barre after not playing in any games during his two weeks with Pittsburgh.
