Green scored a goal in his first playoff game as a member of the Red Wings in Tampa Bay on Wednesday. Green was once a menacing blueline scoring threat as a member of the Capitals, but he found the back of the net just seven times in his first season with Detroit. Those struggles will all be forgiven if the 30-year-old channels his prime form in the playoffs, but don't expect him to cleanly beat Lightning goalie Ben Bishop from just inside the zone often.
Green had a goal and an assist in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Maple Leafs on Saturday night. Green has seen his game blossom late this season and he has eight points, including three goals, in his last 10 games. That's a significant improvement from his earlier pace (26 points in 61). Green is never going to return to the lofty heights of the late 2000s when he delivered back-to-back 70-plus point seasons. But he's a worthy activation right now.
Green tallied his fifth point in six games Tuesday with a goal in a 4-3 loss to Montreal. March has shown Detroit why they signed him, as he has recorded two goals and eight assists in 14 games. While his plus-minus is still hovering at minus-9, his production over the last month has given him some increased fantasy value.
Green registered two assists -- one on the power play -- to go along with two PIM and two hits in Thursday's 4-3 win over Montreal. Green came into March with three multi-assist games on the season, but the blueliner has now notched two in the month (eight total helpers). The 30-year-old has reached 30-plus points for the third straight year, but the minus-5 rating hurts his already pedestrian value.
Green assisted on all three of Detroit's goals in Tuesday 5-3 loss at Columbus. His second assist of the game came on the power play, giving him 14 out of 26 points on the man advantage this season. Green is nowhere near the 70-point man he once was in Washington, and he hasn't been a big producer during his first season in Detroit. However, with five assists in his last four games, he still has a knack for finding his teammates on the ice.
