Sabres' Jamie McGinn: Takes puck to the face

Sabres coach Dan Bylsma said McGinn should be fine after taking a puck to the face in Monday's loss to the Rangers, Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News reports. It sounds as if McGinn will be available for Tuesday's game in Ottawa, as Bylsma suggested that the winger only has cosmetic issues from Monday's incident. McGinn has yet to miss a game this season, tallying 21 points (10 goals) in 49 appearances.

Sabres' Jamie McGinn: Ends two-game points streak

McGinn recorded an assist in each of his past two games before being held without a point Sunday against the Jets. Determined to be more than just a throw-in in the trade for Ryan O'Reilly, McGinn has worked his way into the Sabres' top-six, using his aggressiveness and tenacity to create offense, recording at least four shots on goal in three of his past five games. Other than playing just 14:27 against Chicago last Friday, McGinn has played at least 15 minutes per game since early December, and is on pace to at least match his career-high of 38 points.

Sabres' Jamie McGinn: To play with Ryan O'Reilly

McGinn will play alongside No. 1 center O'Reilly against Calgary on Thursday, reports The Buffalo News. McGinn, in the midst of a career-high six-game point streak, will take Evander Kane's spot on O'Reilly's left wing. Head coach Dan Bylsma is in search of an offensive spark and will reunite Kane with Jack Eichel, leaving McGinn and Sam Reinhart with O'Reilly. McGinn is not a noted scorer but goes to the hard areas and creates a lot of room for his linemates, and combined with O'Reilly and Reinhart's on-ice smarts, the trio should be able to capitalize against a Flames team that allows a lot of shots and goals. McGinn is a short-term plug for fantasy owners at this point given his top-six role, but shouldn't be considered a regular roster player.

Sabres' Jamie McGinn: Two helpers in Friday's win

McGinn tallied two assists in Friday night's win over the Hurricanes. McGinn produced the two points in only 7:58 TOI. Unfortunately, that output is anomalous to what has otherwise been a poor offensive season. He has just eight points in 22 games.

Sabres' Jamie McGinn: Returns to practice

After missing the previous practice, McGinn returned to the ice Wednesday, reports NHL.com's Joe Yerdon. McGinn took a maintenance day Tuesday after recording an assist, three shots on goal and four hits Sunday against the Islanders. The Sabres play Thursday against Tampa Bay and McGinn is expected to play. Given head coach Dan Bylsma's propensity to mix up the lines, McGinn could play anywhere, but in all likelihood it'll be in a bottom-six role.

Sabres' Jamie McGinn: Misses practice Tuesday

McGinn did not attend Tuesday's practice, reports John Vogl of The Buffalo News. McGinn scored an assist and finished with 11:00 TOI Sunday against the Islanders, and no reason was given for his absence at practice. The Sabres don't play until Thursday against Tampa Bay, so if McGinn is simply banged up he'll have some time to get healthy.

Sabres' Jamie McGinn: Moves up depth chart

McGinn was practicing on the second line at Tuesday's practice. McGinn played on the right wing with Jack Eichel and Evander Kane for the second straight practice, which means that he might stay there for good if the chemistry continues to develop. Acquired in a trade along with Ryan O'Reilly, McGinn said he could be more than just a checking line winger. He's logging consistent power-play time but played just 8:46 in his previous game. His situation is one to watch but until he's a fixture in the top-six, he'll continue to have minimal fantasy value.

  • Delivers two goals Friday

News: Jamie McGinn netted two goals, including one on the power play, and added a fighting major in Friday night's 6-4 loss to the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Jamie McGinn was dealing with the flu earlier in the week, though that appears behind him at this point. Back surgery thwarted McGinn's chances of making much of an impact with the Avalanche last season, as he was limited to 19 games. Now healthy and with the Sabres, McGinn figures to be a solid depth fixture on the team's checking line. He'll look to build upon the 19 goals that he scored with the Avs in 2013-14.
  • Sabres' McGinn Misses Practice With Illness

News: Jamie McGinn (illness) missed practice Monday with the flu.
Analysis: Jamie McGinn, who is expected to slot in as a bottom-six forward with the Sabres this season, can be considered day-to-day with the ailment. McGinn registered six points (four goals, two assists) in 19 games with Colorado last season.
  • McGinn Shuffles Off To Buffalo

News: Jamie McGinn (back) was traded to Buffalo on Friday along with Ryan O'Reilly in exchange for Nikita Zadorov, Mikhail Grigorenko, J.T. Compher, and the 31st overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, TSN's Darren Dreger reports.
Analysis: O'Reilly is definitely the headliner in the deal from Buffalo's point of view, but Jamie McGinn is a solid extra piece. A serious back injury limited him to just 19 games this past season, but McGinn scored 19 goals just two seasons ago and he's a solid depth player. He is expected to be fully healthy for training camp in the fall.
