Sabres' Matt Moulson: Promoted to first line

Moulson will skate on the top line Friday against Detroit. Even though Moulson has played fourth-line minutes for the past three games, he gets another opportunity to prove his worth with injuries to key players. He'll skate alongside Evander Kane and Ryan O'Reilly an in effort to jumpstart his offense, which has come far too infrequently after signing a five-year, $25 million contract with the Sabres in 2014. He has just four goals in 46 games this season so don't hold your breath.

Sabres' Matt Moulson: Continues to skate on fourth line

Moulson skated on the fourth line at practice Monday, reports Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald. After speculation that he may sit as a healthy scratch, Moulson didn't miss Saturday's game against Boston, though he did skate on the fourth line and continues to do so. The struggling sniper hasn't been a scoring threat for more than a year, and his latest demotion signals a clear decline in his game. He's getting buried with Buffalo's revamped top-six.

Sabres' Matt Moulson: Dealing with illness

Moulson missed practice Sunday due to an illness. Moulson was considered a candidate to be a healthy scratch for the Sabres on Saturday, but that ultimately didn't come to fruition. His status for Monday is a bit unclear following the news, but morning skate should provide a better picture.

Sabres' Matt Moulson: Could be healthy scratch Saturday

Moulson may serve as a healthy scratch Saturday against Boston, reports Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News. This probably isn't surprising to those who have been tracking Moulson for awhile, who has just four goals in 34 games this year and 13 goals in 77 games last year. He was expected to be the team's top-line left winger but has been sinking on the depth chart for quite some time. Head coach Dan Bylsma is certainly sending a message although he hasn't confirmed the move yet. It also looks like Jamie McGinn has solidified his position on the team's top-six.

Sabres' Matt Moulson: Moved to fourth line

Moulson was moved to the fourth line for much of Tuesday's game against Detroit, reports The Buffalo News. Despite scoring an assist in three straight games, Moulson has gone 13 games without a goal and has just four goals in 25 games overall this season. He played just 1:51 in the third period Tuesday as his play continues to trend downward. Signed to a $25 million contract by Buffalo in 2014, Moulson has scored just 17 goals since then. Fantasy owners can feel free to drop him until he picks it up, but that seems very unlikely. It's clear that Moulson's 30-goal seasons were a byproduct of John Tavares' elite abilities.

Sabres' Matt Moulson: Snags points in back-to-back games

Moulson put himself on the score sheet in back-to-back games for the first time this season following Saturday's game against Nashville. Moulson managed to put together his first scoring streak of the season, netting one assist in each of his last two games. The 32-year-old left winger is averaging over two and half minutes per game on Buffalo's secondary power-play unit. Moulson's ability to get on the score sheet is having a clear impact on the Sabres, who have won four of the last five games in which he recorded a point.

Sabres' Matt Moulson: Eclipses previous season's penalty minute total

Moulson took a minor hooking penalty Tuesday against Philadelphia, giving him six penalty minutes on the season. If fantasy owners are looking for peripheral stats from Moulson, they won't get much from the gentlemanly player. He took just two minor penalties the previous season and just four the season before that. He now has 100 PIM in 483 career games. Since Evander Kane's injury (ankle), Moulson has seen his ice time creep up, but remains a fringe fantasy option given his minimal production and sparse usage on the team's top line. He remains a fixture on the power play, but hasn't done much damage there.

  • Set to open season on second line

News: Matt Moulson will open the season as Jack Eichel's left winger on the second line, reports The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Matt Moulson showed good chemistry with Eichel, while Evander Kane will be the first-line left wing. The former three-time 30-goal scorer for the Islanders had a terrible season with the Sabres last year, scoring just 13 goals in 77 games. He'll most assuredly top that mark this year playing alongside Eichel, and should provide fantasy owners with some good value in the later rounds.
  • Sabres' Moulson Set To Return

News: Matt Moulson is set to return to action against the Hurricanes on Monday after missing two games with the flu, the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Based on the Sabres' morning skate, Matt Moulson -- who has 40 points in 74 games to date -- will work on the team's top line Monday, along with Johan Larsson and Tyler Ennis.
  • Sabres Rule Moulson Out For Saturday

News: Matt Moulson (illness) didn't travel with the Sabres to Long Island for Saturday's game, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Matt Moulson will miss out on one last appearance at Nassau Coliseum against his former team, as the Islanders are set to relocate to Brooklyn next season. The winger will remain in Buffalo and instead set his sights on getting healthy in advance of Monday's match against the Hurricanes.
