    • Murphy back up with Devils

News: New Jersey recalled defensemen Cory Murphy and Matt Corrente from Lowell of the AHL on Friday. Both played against the Predators, although Corrente skated as a RW on the fourth line.
Analysis: Murphy has been somewhat of a disappointing player since making his NHL debut in 2007-08. He was a prized overseas import and has offensive talent. He just hasn't produced on a regular basis. Murphy has minimal Fantasy appeal.
    • Eckford up, Murphy down for Devils

News: The Devils have called up D Tyler Eckford up from the AHL. To make room, D Cory Murphy was sent down.
Analysis: Eckford, a seventh-round pick from 2007, is off to a great start in his second AHL season with 15 points in 18 games and was named the league's player of the week on Sunday. The 24-year-old isn't much of a prospect, so don't worry about him in Fantasy play just yet. Murphy can also continue to be ignored.
    • Murphy scores first goal for Devils

News: Devils D Cory Murphy scored the first goal of his season on Friday night in a 2-1 win over the Islanders. Murphy scored his first in the 2nd period to tie the score at one apiece.
Analysis: Murphy had zero points on the season in five games played before the goal on Friday. He was waived by New Jersey earlier in the season but was picked up again. Still, he has no Fantasy value at this time.
    • Murphy waived by Devils

News: The Devils have waived D Cory Murphy.
Analysis: Murphy played in three games this season before the Devils said thanks, but no thanks. Murphy might end up somewhere else, but has no Fantasy value at this time.
    • Devils sign blue-liner Murphy

News: The Devils have signed D Cory Murphy to a two-way contract.Murphy, who spent six seasons playing in Europe, added two goals and four assists in five AHL appearances.
Analysis: Murphy split last season with Florida, Rochester in the AHL and Tampa Bay. He had five goals and 11 assists in 32 NHL games. He was claimed off re-entry waivers by the Lightning in January after starting the season with the Panthers. He has limited Fantasy value at this time, but showed improvement after moving to Tampa. Only draft him in super-deep leagues.
    • Murphy out 3-4 weeks

News: The Sports Xchange reports Lightning D Cory Murphy suffered a broken bone in his right foot on March 17 against Toronto and is expected to miss three to four weeks, which would keep him out until at least the last week of the season.
Analysis: It's a real shame Murphy has to likely miss the rest of the season since he has become a viable Fantasy defenseman after joining the Lightning lineup. It's probably safe to cut Murphy since the Lightning have no reason to rush him back.
    • Murphy still sitting out on Saturday

News: Tampa Bay D Cory Murphy missed Saturday's game against the Thrashers on Saturday due to a foot injury sustained in Tuesday's game against Toronto, the second game he has missed due to the injury. He remains questionable for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Murphy has seen a nice uptick in production this season since moving from Florida to Tampa Bay. He has 15 points in his last 24 games but remains a low-end option. He is an injury risk for the upcoming scoring period and is not a suggested start.
    • Murphy out after sustaining injury

News: Tampa Bay D Cory Murphy missed Thursday's game against the Capitals on Thursday due to a lower body injury sustained in Tuesday's game against Toronto. He had a four-game point streak going before missing Thursday's game. He is questionable for Saturday's game against the Thrashers.
Analysis: Murphy has been playing much better since making the move north from Florida to Tampa Bay. He has 15 points in his last 24 games but remains a low-end option. Wait to see if he plays on Saturday before making a decision on him for the upcoming scoring period.
    • Murphy extends streak before injury

News: Lightning D Cory Murphy sustained a lower body injury and missed the third period Tuesday against the Maple Leafs. He recorded an assist in 15:16 of ice time and finished at even. Murphy has two goals and two assists during a four-game point streak.
Analysis: Murphy has two goals and five assists in eight March games and has been a hit since joining the Lightning lineup. He has 15 points (five goals) in 24 games. He has been a great veteran presence despite the ship sinking in Tampa Bay. Murphy can be a viable low-end Fantasy defenseman when healthy.
    • Murphy opens up scoring early

News: Lightning D Cory Murphy scored an early goal on Wednesday against the Senators, scoring only 2L37 into the first period in a 3-2 overtime loss. It was his 13th overall point on the season with four goals and nine assists.
Analysis: Murphy has six points in his last seven games, nearly doubling his points total on the season. Murphy has been a solid pickup for the Lightning since he was claimed off waivers in late January. He has filled a need on the blue line with all the injuries Tampa has sustained, but his offensive production is still a bit sporadic. Continue to view Murphy more as a low-end Fantasy option.
