Blue Jackets' Jack Johnson: Earns pair of assists Saturdayv

Johnson dished out two assists in Saturday's 5-2 win over the visiting Coyotes. Johnson -- widely considered by most in the preseason to be the most attractive fantasy asset on Columbus' blue line -- now has just five points in 18 games this year. The Jackets have other young rearguards in David Savard (nine points) and Ryan Murray (eight points) that are emerging as fantasy commodities as well, so Johnson has his work cut out for him if he hopes to be the top dog on the back end for head coach John Tortorella.

    • Two assists in four preseason games

News: Jack Johnson finished the preseason with two assists in four games.
Analysis: The Blue Jackets have experimented with a 1-3-1 power play alignment in the preseason, which could leave Jack Johnson as the only defenseman on what figures to be a very potent unit. Last year's 40 points were his best output so far in Columbus, but he could top that as the young supporting cast around him continues to improve.
    • Jackets' Johnson Collects Two Helpers

News: Jack Johnson picked up a pair of assists and was a plus-3 in Friday's win over the Sabres.
Analysis: That's three points and a plus-5 rating in two games for Jack Johnson, who is now up to 39 points in 78 games on the season. He's been producing consistently since mid-March and will have a chance to reach the 40-point barrier for the first time since 2010-11 when the Blue Jackets close out their regular season Saturday against the Islanders.
    • Jackets' Johnson Takes Ice For Warmups

News: Jack Johnson (illness) is on the ice for pregame warmups and appears in line to play Thursday against the Islanders.
Analysis: The illness prevented Jack Johnson from skating in the morning with the rest of the team, but it appears the extra hours off were all he needed to regain health. Barring a late setback in warmups, he'll slot in at his familiar spot on the Jackets' top defensive pairing.
    • Blue Jackets' Johnson a Game-Time Call

News: Jack Johnson (illness) is a game-time decision for Thursday's contest against the Islanders, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: If Jack Johnson -- who is feeling under the weather -- can't play Thursday night, Justin Falk would be in line to move into the team's lineup for the contest.
    • Jackets' Johnson Nabs Game Winner Tuesday

News: Jack Johnson supplied the game-winning goal in Tuesday's overtime victory over the Devils.
Analysis: The backhanded tally was Jack Johnson's seventh of the season, which represents his highest total for a season since 2011-12. The blueliner is still sitting on an ugly minus-16 rating, but with three points in his last four games -- all of which have been Columbus victories -- he should make for a solid activation.
    • Jackets' Johnson Sets Up Goal In Win

News: Jack Johnson set up Mark Letestu's game-tying goal in an eventual shootout victory over the Oilers on Wednesday.
Analysis: Jack Johnson is just two points of besting last season's mark of 33, and will more than likely finish with the second-best scoring total of his career when 2014-15 comes to a close. Unfortunately, the Jackets' collective struggles this season have inhibited his fantasy value a bit, as he's currently sitting on a minus-18 rating. Johnson has also had difficulty finding the net of late, as he's without a goal since Jan. 29.
    • Jackets' Johnson Sets Up Goal On Man Advantage

News: Jack Johnson picked up a power-play assist Sunday, but it wasn't enough as the Blue Jackets lost to the Penguins, 5-3.
Analysis: With 23 helpers on the season, Jack Johnson is quite the skilled passer from the blue line. However, it's worth knowing if your league counts stats for plus/minus, as Johnson is a liability in that area at minus-18.
    • Blue Jackets' Johnson Heavily Involved In Loss

News: Jack Johnson racked up an assist, four hits and a blocked shot in Monday's 4-3 loss to the Kings.
Analysis: Jack Johnson is a decent contributor with the puck, but you have to take the good with the bad. He isn't afraid to lay the smash on opponents and fight for loose pucks, and has seen his offense spike upward this season as a result. However, he's minus-17 on the year, which is cringe-worthy for leagues counting that stat.
    • Jackets' Johnson Notches Goal Thursday

News: Jack Johnson netted a goal in Thursday's loss to the Panthers.
Analysis: Jack Johnson is holding down a half-point-per-game scoring pace (23 points in 44 contests) for just the second time in his career. However, the production has been often muted by his ghastly minus-23 rating, which ranks as the third-worst mark in the NHL. Players on truly awful squads like the Sabres and Oilers are surrounding him in that category, and while the Jackets aren't quite as bad as those teams, they're probably not good enough for Johnson to notice much recovery in that category in the second half.
