Avalanche's Erik Johnson: Scores two assists in win

Johnson scored two assists in a losing effort Thursday against Dallas. Johnson now has 20 points in 45 games this season, and since returning from his lower-body injury has four assists in his past four games. He remains a workhorse on the Avs blue line, playing 25:24 on the night and finished with a plus-2 rating. Johnson isn't the most offensively gifted but remains an all-round defenseman who can play in all situations. He doesn't have much upside but he's consistent, which makes him a fantasy asset worth considering.

Avalanche's Erik Johnson: Will play Saturday

Although he won't play Friday against St. Louis, Johnson (lower body) will return to action Saturday against the Stars. Johnson has been sidelined since Jan. 6 with a lower-body injury, but returned to practice Wednesday, which was the first indication that the 6-foot-4 blueliner was close to returning to Colorado's lineup. Johnson's return will serve as a huge boost to the Avlanche's defense corps, as he was averaging 23:30 of ice time before sustaining his lower-body ailment. The former first-round pick has tallied 16 points (seven goals, nine assists) in 40 games this season.

Avalanche's Erik Johnson: returns to practice Wednesday

Johnson participated in Wednesday's morning skate according to Head Coach Patrick Roy. Johnson had resumed skating activities back on Jan. 12 but this is the first time the defenseman has practiced with the team since sustaining a knee injury on Jan. 4. Now that Johnson has returned to practice, a return to the lineup can be expected sometime within the next week.

Avalanche's Erik Johnson: Placed on IR, can return when healthy

Johnson (lower body) has landed on injured reserve retroactive to Jan. 4, per Avalanche coach Patrick Roy. Johnson will be able to return when healthy since the IR placement is retroactive to his last game played more than seven days ago. Roy added that the transaction "just gives us roster flexibility." With Johnson on the shelf and Nate Guenin reportedly on waivers, the team has called up Chris Bigras and Nikita Zadorov for extra depth on the blue line.

Avalanche's Erik Johnson: Resumes skating Tuesday

Johnson was on the ice Tuesday before Colorado's optional morning skate, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports. Tuesday marked the first time Johnson has skated since suffering a knee injury on Jan. 4 against the Sharks. Head coach Patrick Roy told reporters last Tuesday that Johnson could miss up to 12 days with the ailment, meaning the blueliner likely won't return to game action until Saturday against Columbus at the earliest. Expect an update on Johnson's status once he's able to return to practice with his teammates.

Avalanche's Erik Johnson: Yet to resume skating

Johnson (lower body) hasn't skated since suffering the injury Jan. 4 against Los Angeles, Brian Hedger of reports. This development essentially rules Johnson out of Sunday's game with Chicago, and makes his return for Tuesday against Tampa Bay unlikely. The Avs will probably want to see Johnson practice fully before returning, so expect Johnson to return Thursday against New Jersey at the very earliest.

Avalanche's Erik Johnson: Out short term

Johnson (lower body) will be out short term, according to Avalanche head coach Patrick Roy, with Marc Moser of Altitude TV adding that Johnson could be out as long as 12 days. Johnson only logged 11:26 of ice time Monday, before sustaining the injury. While the defenseman's timetable for a return is quite nebulous at this point in time, it would come as a surprise if he's not reevaluated ahead of the upcoming contests. Looking ahead at Colorado's schedule, the Avs have home games Wednesday (STL) and Friday (NAS), and then travel to Chicago for a date with the Blackhawks on Jan. 10.

Avalanche's Erik Johnson: Suffers lower-body injury

Johnson sustained a lower-body injury during Monday's game against the Kings and is considered doubtful to return. The extent of Johnson's injury remains unclear, although there's a slight glimmer of hope it's not overly serious since he hasn't been completely ruled out of Monday's game. If he's forced to sit out beyond Monday, Nate Guenin could ultimately see extra time on the ice.

Avalanche's Erik Johnson: Collects two points in loss

Johnson registered a goal and an assist in Monday's loss to the Maple Leafs. Johnson helped get the scoring started just two minutes into the contest, then later lit the lamp himself to knot up the score at three before Toronto exploded for four goals in the final frame. The defenseman has now worked his way onto the scoresheet in consecutive games but has just 13 points on the season.

Avalanche's Erik Johnson: Gets assist in Thursday's win

Johnson finished plus-2 with an assist in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Bruins. The assist came on Francois Beauchemin's deflected shot that got past Tuukka Rask late in the first period. The Avs offense appears on the verge of breaking out, so Johnson figures to get more chances to pitch in.
